White Sox extend domination of Red Sox

CHICAGO (AP)—The Chicago White Sox extended their recent domination of Boston, beating the Red Sox 3-1 on Friday in the American League.

Chicago’s seventh straight victory over Boston and 14th in the past 16 games between the teams denied the 44-year-old knuckleballer Tim Wakefield(notes) his 200th career win.
Boston starter Wakefield (6-4) allowed just three hits in seven innings but a wild pitch in the sixth helped set up the 1-1 tying run on Paul Konerko’s(notes) sacrifice fly. And he walked a batter to start the bottom of the seventh before A.J. Pierzynski(notes) hit a two-run homer to complete the scoring.
White Sox starter Gavin Floyd(notes) (9-9) won his third straight start, giving up one run in seven innings. His career record against the Red Sox is 6-0.
Tigers 12, Angels 2
In Detroit, Carlos Guillen(notes) hit a two-run triple in a four-run sixth inning which vaulted Detroit over Los Angeles.
Guillen and Victor Martinez(notes) had four RBIs apiece, while Ramon Santiago(notes) added three hits for Detroit. Martinez hit a one-out RBI single to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead in the sixth, and Guillen followed with his first triple of the season.
Detroit starter Rick Porcello(notes) (11-6) allowed two runs in eight innings, striking out six.
Tyler Chatwood(notes) (6-7) gave up six runs in 5 1-3 innings for the Angels, who had won three straight.
Blue Jays 3, Rangers 2
In Toronto, J.P. Arencibia(notes) hit a three-run homer to give Toronto victory over Texas.
Blue Jays starter Brett Cecil(notes) (4-4) allowed only one run in seven innings. Jon Rauch(notes) pitched around a homer to close it out for his ninth save.
Rangers starter Alexi Ogando(notes) (10-5) allowed three runs in 5 2-3 innings.
Royals 12, Indians 0
In Cleveland, Melky Cabrera(notes) hit a grand slam homer as Kansas City spanked Cleveland.
Billy Butler(notes) hit a two-run shot in the first and a solo drive in the eighth, giving him five long balls in a four-game homer streak. Alex Gordon(notes) also went long for the Royals.
Butler came to the plate immediately after Cabrera’s grand slam in the fourth, and Cleveland pitcher Carlos Carrasco(notes) promptly threw the first pitch at his head. Players from both dugouts and bullpens came on the field, and Carrasco was ejected.
Kansas City starter Jeff Francis(notes) (4-11) pitched eight scoreless innings to win for the first time in seven weeks. He struck out six and walked one.
Carrasco (8-9) lost his fifth straight start.
