Utley powers Phillies past Pirates

PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Philadelphia’s Chase Utley(notes) fell a double shy of the cycle, powering the Phillies to a 10-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates in the National League on Friday.

Jimmy Rollins(notes) added a two-run homer in the seventh for a 10-0 lead. Ryan Howard(notes) had an RBI double and Raul Ibanez(notes) a run-scoring single in the first.
Philadelphia starter Roy Halladay(notes) (13-4) tossed seven shutout innings, striking out five and walking none.
The Phillies, who have the best record in baseball, later acquired All-Star outfielder Hunter Pence(notes) from Houston.
Braves 5, Marlins 0
In Atlanta, the hosts ended Florida’s five-game winning streak.
Dan Uggla(notes) hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the seventh inning, extending his hitting streak to 20 games and leads the Braves with 19 homers. He has improved his meager batting averaged from .176 to .206 this month.
Brandon Beachy(notes) (4-2) went 7-1/3 scoreless innings.
Emilio Bonifacio’s(notes) 26-game hitting streak, the second-longest in Marlins history, came to an end. He struck out twice and was thrown out trying to bunt his way on base before hitting a groundout in the eighth.

Ronny Paulino(notes) finished with three hits, and David Wright(notes) and Jason Bay(notes) each had two as the Mets scored four times in the first inning en route to their fifth straight win. It was New York’s major-league leading 33rd road win.

Nationals starter Chien-Ming Wang(notes) (0-1) made his first major league appearance two years to the day after he had shoulder surgery, and gave up six runs in four innings.
