CHICAGO (AFP) - The United States will try to avenge a loss to Mexico in last month's Gold Cup final when they host their border rivals in an August 10 friendly at Philadelphia, the US Soccer Federation announced.
The Mexicans won their second consecutive Gold Cup crown two weeks ago by rallying for a 4-2 triumph over the host US squad in the championship match at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, before a crowd of more than 93,000.
Mexico has won 32 matches, lost 15 and drawn 11 against the United States in the all-time rivalry that began in 1934.
"A match between the United States and Mexico inspires a lot of passion from both sides and creates an outstanding atmosphere," US coach Bob Bradley said on Friday.
"These types of games are great experiences for our players, and we look forward to the challenge."
The match will set the stage for two more friendlies in September, the Americans hosting Costa Rica on September 2 at Los Angeles and visiting Belgium at Brussels four days later.
