MONTPELLIER, France (AFP) - Bruising Bosnian centre-back Emir Spahic is poised to join Sevilla after his French club Montpellier revealed on Wednesday that they have agreed to sell him.
The two clubs have reportedly agreed an initial fee of around two million euros ($2.86m) for the Bosnia-Herzegovina captain, who will sign a three-year contract after undergoing a medical examination.
The 30-year-old joined Montpellier from Lokomotiv Moscow in 2009.
After an excellent debut season he hit the headlines for the wrong reasons in 2010-11, missing 16 league matches through suspension, most notably following an appalling elbow on Brest striker Nolan Roux.
In two seasons at Montpellier he played 60 matches and scored three goals.
