Schalke signs Romanian striker Marica

GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany (AP)—Schalke has signed former Stuttgart striker Ciprian Marica to a two-year contract.

The 25-year-old Romanian played 93 Bundesliga games for Stuttgart and scored 19 goals but was released at the end of the last season.

Schalke general manager Horst Heldt says Marica “knows his way around the Bundesliga, speaks several languages and was a free agent … he fits the profile of a player we were looking for.”

Heldt brought Marica to Stuttgart in 2007 when he was at the club.
