NEW YORK, July 8 (Reuters) - The Philadelphia Phillies have placed All-Star center fielder Shane Victorino on the 15-day disabled list because of a thumb injury, the Major League Baseball team said on Friday.
Victorino, who leads the Phillies in runs (53) and triples (9) this season despite missing 14 games due to a hamstring strain, sprained a ligament in his right thumb during last weekend’s series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The 30-year-old, an All-Star in 2009 and 2011 who has earned three Gold Glove awards, was replaced on Philadelphia’s roster by infielder Pete Orr from triple-A Lehigh Valley.
In 68 games this season, Victorino is batting .303 with 14 doubles, nine home runs, 34 RBI and 13 stolen bases.
