ROME (AFP) - Romania striker Adrian Mutu says he hopes to re-launch his tainted career after joining modest Italian outfit Cesena from Fiorentina on Thursday.
"I've come here to set an example and help the team progress," said 32-year-old Mutu, who was once suspended for using cocaine.
"As a player, I've not made many mistakes. As a man, in contrast, I've made a lot. But I assume my responsibilities."
After returning from a nine-month doping ban in October, Mutu was involved in a bar brawl a few days later and was almost forced to leave Fiorentina during the winter due to his poor attitude in training.
Mutu was suspended for taking cocaine in 2004 and still owes 17.2 million ($24.7m) euros in damages to Chelsea, his club at the time.
