ROME (AFP) - Serie A side Lazio have completed the signings of Italian international goalkeeper Federico Marchetti from Cagliari and the Albania midfielder Lorik Cana from Galatasaray, it was reported here Wednesday.
"I have chosen Lazio because I was impressed by the project on offer. I am looking to the future now after what has been a difficult year, a real nightmare," said Marchetti.
The keeper played for Italy at last year's World Cup but was frozen out at Cagliari last season after having a transfer request turned down.
He had wanted to move to Sampdoria in the summer of 2010, and later rejected a move to Genoa in the January transfer window.
A lack of action at club level led to him losing his place in the Italy squad, but he will now be hoping to resurrect his international career following his move to Rome.
Marchetti will take the number one jersey at Lazio from Fernando Muslera, the Uruguayan international who is set to join Galatasaray as part of the deal that will see Cana move to Serie A.
Cana, the Albania captain, passed a medical on Wednesday.
The duo take the "Biancocelesti's" number of summer signings to five. Veteran Bayern Munich and Germany striker Miroslav Klose, Bosnian international right-back Senad Lulic from Young Boys of Bern, and French-born full-back Abdoulay Konko from Genoa have already arrived in the Italian capital in recent weeks.
