MUNICH (AP)—Germany defender Jerome Boateng is set to join Bayern Munich from Manchester City on a four-year contract.
Bayern said Thursday Boateng will arrive in Munich for a medical in the next few days and sign his contract. It said both clubs agreed not to disclose the transfer fee.
The 22-year-old Boateng, who joined Manchester City from Hamburg at the beginning of last season on a five-year deal, is currently in Los Angeles with City.
Bayern sporting director Christian Nerlinger says Boateng “fits perfectly with Bayern’s philosophy—he is also the player our coach, Jupp Heynckes, wanted.”
Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said the transfer followed long and “intensive negotiations.”
Heynckes is returning to Bayern for his third stint at Germany’s most consistently successful club after it failed to win a title last season, finishing third in the Bundesliga.
Bayern has already signed Germany’s No. 1 goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, from Bundesliga rival Schalke.
