* Blue Jays make deals with Cardinals, White Sox
* White Sox’s Jackson winds up in St. Louis
TORONTO, July 27 (Reuters) - The busy Toronto Blue Jays have acquired young St. Louis outfielderColby Rasmus and traded former Chicago White Sox starter Edwin Jackson to the Cardinals as part of two multiplayer deals on Wednesday, the teams said.
Jackson, a 27-year-old right-hander, helped start the dealing when he was shipped to Toronto in a four-player deal.
But hours later Jackson (7-7) was on his way to St. Louis along with relievers Octavio Dotel andMarc Rzepczynski, outfielder Corey Patterson and three players to be named later or cash considerations.
Rasmus, 24, who will take his .246 batting average and 40 runs batted in to Toronto, was traded to the Blue Jays along with pitchers Brian Tallet, Trever Miller and P.J. Walters.
Miller, 38 and Tallet, 33, both are returning to Toronto. Miller (0-1) spent the 2003 season with the Blue Jays, going 2-2. Tallet pitched for Toronto from 2006-10, compiling a 15-21 record.
In the deal with the White Sox, the Blue Jays traded reliever Jason Frasor and pitching prospectZach Stewart to Chicago for Jackson and third baseman Mark Teahen.
Jackson has a 3.92 earned-run average (ERA) in 19 starts with Chicago during the 2011 Major League Baseball season while Teahen, 29, is batting .209 in 50 games.
“Edwin Jackson and Mark Teahen are consummate professionals, but we needed to make a little bit of a dent in our payroll,” White Sox General Manager Ken Williams told Chicago media, estimating the team would save about $9 million over two years.
Frasor, 33, appeared in 44 games for Toronto this season as a reliever, posting a 2-1 record with a 2.98 ERA.
The right-handed Stewart, 24, has spent most of the season in the minor leagues. He has an 0-1 record and 4.86 ERA in three starts with Toronto in 2011.
