Indians starter Talbot put on 15-day disabled list

NEW YORK, July 13 (Reuters) - The Cleveland Indians suffered another blow to their starting rotation when pitcher Mitch Talbot  was put on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday.
The right-hander, who is sidelined with a lower back strain, has been replaced on the roster by outfielderEzequiel Carrera from Triple-A Columbus, the Major League Baseball team said in a statement.
However, Talbot’s next scheduled start—against the Orioles in Baltimore on Sunday—is likely to be taken byJeanmar Gomez, who has pitched in four games for Cleveland and gone 9-3 in 14 starts for Columbus this season.
Talbot, who is 2-6 with a 6.33 earned-run average in 11 starts for the Indians this season, joins fellow Cleveland pitchers Alex White  and Fausto Carmona on the disabled list.
The 47-42 Indians are second in the American League’s Central division, half a game behind the pacesetting Detroit Tigers.
