LYON, France (AFP) - Former Lyon coach Claude Puel is seeking around five million euros in compensation after being sacked by the French club last month.
Puel's lawyer Guy Reiss confirmed on Wednesday that his client is seeking over one million euros in damages as well as 3.3 million euros which Puel claims he is due for the final year of his contract.
Puel, who was sacked on June 20 after three years without a trophy at the Stade de Gerland, was in attendance at the industrial tribunal in the city, but he left the talking to his lawyer.
"Claude Puel's contract clearly states that he is entitled to certain sums of money in the circumstances. That is why we are here," said Reiss.
"I will not allow the club to wait for another year or two to settle this matter, although everyone knows that is exactly what they are after," he continued, in reference to supposed financial difficulties at OL.
The lawyer representing Lyon responded by insisting that the club are confident that the tribunal will ultimately judge in their favour. A decision is expected on July 27th.
