Late goal gives Canada draw with Ecuador in soccer friendly

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Tosaint Ricketts scored in second half stoppage time to lift Canada into a 2-2 draw with Ecuador on Wednesday in a football friendly, the Canadians' final tuneup for the Gold Cup tournament.

While Ecuadorans were arguing a free kick call with the referee, Julian de Guzman took a quick kick that set up Ricketts with the equalizer, his first goal for the national team.
Canada achieved its best result with Ecuador, having lost all three prior meetings, and did so before a crowd largely comprised of Ecuadoran supporters.
Canada's Terry Dunfield opened the scoring in the first half but Christian Benitez evened the score for Ecuador with a header in the 62nd minute and teammate Michael Arroyo put Ecuador ahead two minutes later on a 30-metre shot.
The Canadian side begins the Gold Cup, the North American continental championship, against the host United States on Tuesday.
