Team by team analysis of Spanish Grand Prix

BARCELONA, May 22 (Reuters) - Team by team analysis of Sunday's Spanish Formula One Grand Prix (listed in current championship order):- RED BULL (Sebastian Vettel 1, Mark Webber 4)
Vettel chalked up his fourth win in five races to stretch his overall lead to 41 points. He was the first driver not on pole to win in Barcelona since Mika Hakkinen in
2000. Webber started on pole, Red Bull's fifth of the season and sixth in a row, but made a poor start when Alonso took the lead.
-
MCLAREN (Lewis Hamilton 2, Jenson Button 3)
Hamilton pushed Vettel hard but was never close enough to make a serious overtaking move. As a consolation, he set the fastest lap (52 of the 66). Button had a nightmare start but, doing three stops -- one less than the other leaders -- came back strongly.
-
FERRARI (Fernando Alonso 5, Felipe Massa retired)
Alonso led at the start but having to do the two last stints on hard tyres, including the last 26 laps on one set, left him lapped and with no chance of a podium in front of his home crowd. Massa was Ferrari's first retirement of the season.
-
RENAULT (Nick Heidfeld 8, Vitaly Petrov 11)
Heidfeld went from last to eighth while Petrov, who started sixth, ended up behind. The German's performance was flattered by having a stash of new soft tyres to use because he had sat out qualifying due to his car catching fire in Saturday's final practice. He started on hard tyres. Petrov started his first three stints on used softs.
-
MERCEDES (Michael Schumacher 6, Nico Rosberg 7)
Rosberg moved up to sixth overall, ahead of Heidfeld. The German was hampered by losing radio communication early in the race as well as a malfunctioning moveable rear wing. Both drivers did three stops.
-
SAUBER (Sergio Perez 9, Kamui Kobayashi 10)
Perez took his first points in F1 after being disqualified from a scoring position in the Australian season-opener. The last Mexican to score points was Hector Rebaque in 1981. Sauber's fourth successive race in the points. Kobayashi was nudged into the gravel on the opening lap and had a rear left puncture, forcing him to pit and go to the back of the field.
-
TORO ROSSO (Sebastien Buemi 14, Jaime Alguersuari 16)
No points for Red Bull's sister team. Alguersuari struggled with worn tyres and did four stops.
-
FORCE INDIA (Paul di Resta 12, Adrian Sutil 13)
The two drivers came from 16th and 17th on the grid after saving tyres in qualifying. Di Resta started on the soft tyres, Sutil on the hard.
-
WILLIAMS (Pastor Maldonado 15, Rubens Barrichello 17)
Still no points for the former champions.
-
TEAM LOTUS (Jarno Trulli 18, Heikki Kovalainen retired)
Kovalainen started 15th, the team's highest qualifying in dry conditions, but went off at turn four on lap 52. Trulli also had a cracked exhaust from the middle of the race onwards.
-
VIRGIN RACING (Timo Glock 19, Jerome d'Ambrosio 20)
Another double finish but miles off the pace. Their race was mainly about managing to get out of the way of others. The cars were at least reliable.
-
HRT (Narain Karthikeyan 21, Vitantonio Liuzzi retired)
Liuzzi had a gearbox problem after his first stop which ultimately proved terminal. Karthikeyan finished at least but had trouble with his seat and burned his back: "At times the pain was unbearable," he said.
