* It is the second time since the CL started that two teams
have been re-matched in a final. Liverpool and AC Milan met in
2005 and 2007, Liverpool emerging victorious in the first and
Milan winning the return. Barcelona and United are also meeting
two years after their original final encounter in 2009 when
Barca won 2-0.

* It will be the 22nd time that a Spanish team have reached
a European Cup/CL final and the 18th for an English club. Only
Italy, with 26, can boast more appearances in the final.

* If Barcelona win, it will be a record 13th European
champions title for Spanish clubs. If United win, England would
join Spain and Italy on 12 titles.

* Whichever team wins, they will join Real Madrid and AC
Milan on a record three titles since the Champions League
started in 1992-93.

* By a curious coincidence, both Barca and United have
scored 303 goals and conceded 158 in the CL. The difference is
in the number of games played -- Barcelona 158 to United's 175.

* It will be the first Champions League final at the new
Wembley. The old stadium hosted five finals -- AC Milan v
Benfica in 1963, United v Benfica in 1968, Ajax v Panathinaikos
in 1971, Liverpool v Club Bruges in 1978 and Barcelona v
Sampdoria in 1992.

* Barcelona and United have both won European Cup finals at
the old Wembley, United beating Benfica 4-1 in 1968 and
Barcelona winning 1-0 against Sampdoria in 1992, both after
extra time.

* Both Barcelona's previous CL final wins were against
English clubs -- they beat Arsenal 2-1 in Paris in 2006 and
United 2-0 in Rome in 2009.

* Barcelona's Argentine forward Lionel Messi has scored 11
goals in this season's tournament, one short of the CL season
record set by Dutch striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy in 2002-03 when
he was with Manchester United. However, Messi has not scored in
seven previous matches for Barcelona in England.

* Barcelona have scored in each of their last 20 CL games.
The last time they failed to find the net was away to Rubin
Kazan in a 0-0 draw in the group stage more than 18 months ago.

* Barcelona defender Carles Puyol would be appearing in his
100th CL game if selected.

* Barcelona have won 29 and lost 17 of 65 previous games
against English teams and have lost only five of 22 in the
Champions League.

* United have won only seven of 27 CL games against Spanish
sides and have triumphed in just 11 of 40 European matches
against Spanish opposition.

* United's Dutch keeper Edwin Van der Sar, playing the final
game of his distinguished career, will be appearing in his 99th
CL game for United, Ajax or Juventus.

* United are unbeaten in their last 13 CL games since losing
2-1 away to Bayern Munich in last season's quarter-finals. They
have conceded only four goals in their 12 CL games this season
and have not let in more than one goal in any game in that time.

* United midfielders Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes have played
respectively in 125 and 121 CL games. The only player with more
appearances in the competition is Spanish striker Raul of
Schalke 04, formerly of Real Madrid, with 142.
