RIO DE JANEIRO, May 9 (Reuters) - Santos playmaker Paulo Henrique Ganso will be out for six weeks with a thigh injury, affecting their hopes of reaching the Libertadores Cup semi-finals, the club said on Monday.
The 21-year-old Brazil midfielder suffered the injury to his right thigh during the first leg of the Paulista (Sao Paulo) state championship final against Corinthians on Sunday.
"He was off balance, with his right knee on the ground, and tried to shoot with his left leg. At that moment his right thigh muscle suffered a contraction that caused the injury," Santos doctor Rodrigo Zogaib said on the club's website (www.santosfc.com.br).
Ganso, who had surgery on damaged left knee ligaments last August, will miss the Libertadores Cup quarter-final tie against Once Caldas of Colombia, the second leg of the Paulista final and the May 21 start of the Brazilian championship.
Santos travel to Colombia for Wednesday's first leg of the quarter-final tie in Manizales.
