PARIS, May 30 (Reuters) - Sixth seed Li Na became the first Chinese player to reach the quarter-finals of the French Open as she recovered from a torrid start to beat Czech ninth seed Petra Kvitova 2-6 6-1 6-3 on Monday.
Kvitova, whose best result at a grand slam is a semi-final at Wimbledon last year, powered through the opening set before collapsing.
Australian Open finalist Li’s variety of shots was too much to handle for Kvitova, who lost six games in a row after opening a 3-0 lead in the decider.
Li, who was backed by a handful of Chinese fans, will take on Russian Ekaterina Makarova or fourth seed Victoria Azarenka of Belarus.
