ASUNCION, April 30 (Reuters) - Mini midfielder Maxi Moralez scored twice as Velez Sarsfield stamped their authority on the Argentine Clausura championship with a 4-0 away win over title holders Estudiantes on Saturday. Velez are top with 24 points from 12 matches, two more
points than River Plate, who won 1-0 at Racing Club, and four ahead of Godoy Cruz who followed their 2-1 win at River last weekend with a 4-1 home defeat by Arsenal. Estudiantes have 17 points.
August Fernandez scored his third goal in two matches to put Velez ahead in the 36th minute at the Ciudad de La Plata stadium, slipping through the defence to chest down Moralez's chip and tap past keeper Agustin Orion.
Fernandez, who scored twice against LDU Quito in the Libertadores Cup in midweek, returned the compliment five minutes later by steering the ball through to the 1.60-metre, 53kg Moralez, who lobbed over Orion into the top far corner.
Moralez scored his second from the penalty spot after striker Juan Manuel Martinez was brought down on the hour by Rodrigo Brana, whose second yellow card got him sent off.
Substitute David Ramirez scored the fourth one minute from time.
KEEPER'S AMULET
River goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo picked up a bunch of keys an admirer threw into his penalty box after a brilliant performance locked up his goal at Racing's Cilindro.
"I'm going to keep this as a souvenir, it's an amulet," Carrizo told reporters.
Striker Marino Pavone scored the only goal with a first-half penalty after gifted teenager Erik Lamela was brought down by defender Matias Cahais following a brilliant run into the box.
Carrizo stood in Racing's way throughout a second half in which River were a man short after the dismissal of left back Juan Manuel Diaz just before halftime for a second booking.
"I feel really good, I'm the best. I'm very pleased with my form and I want to carry on like this," said Carrizo, who has won back a place in Argentina coach Sergio Batista's plans.
Carrizo, overlooked by World Cup coach Diego Maradona after conceding six goals in a 6-1 thrashing at high altitude in a qualifier away to Bolivia two years ago, won his 11th cap in a friendly for Batista's B team against Ecuador last week.
River are attempting to buy back the 26-year-old, who they transferred to Lazio in 2008 and is back on loan.
