Ivanov to replace Petrov as coach of Levski Sofia

SOFIA, May 27 (Reuters) - Levski Sofia released coach Yasen Petrov following their final game of the season on Friday and said that sporting director Georgi Ivanov would replace him for a second stint in the hot seat.

“I can confirm that our new coach is Georgi Ivanov as he’ll also remain Levski’s sporting director,” Todor Batkov, president of the 26-times Bulgarian champions, told reporters after their 3-0 win over Montana.
Former Bulgaria midfielder Petrov was appointed last May, becoming Levski’s fourth coach since Stanimir Stoilov was sacked in 2008.
However, Petrov, who had previously coached four clubs in the Bulgarian top flight, paid the price for Levski’s second consecutive trophy-less season after they finished second in the league behind Litex.
Former crowd favourite Ivanov replaced Serbian Ratko Dostanic in 2009 on an interim basis and knows what awaits him at a club with with hugely demanding supporters.
“Levski should be champions every season,” said Ivanov. “If we don’t win the title next season, I’ll quit, that’s for sure.”
Levski are planning a huge clear-out of players including Mali striker Garra Dembele, who scored 36 goals in all competitions this season and said he had played his last game at Levski.
