Hamilton says sorry to stewards after angry rant

MONACO (AP)—Lewis Hamilton says he has apologized to stewards at the Monaco Grand Prix after jokingly suggesting that he was being penalized because he is black.
The McLaren driver was given two drive through penalties and a time penalty following incidents with Ferrari’s Felipe Massa and Williams’ Pastor Maldonado during Sunday’s race.

Hamilton described it as an “absolute … joke” and added in an interview with the BBC, “Maybe it’s because I’m black. That’s what Ali G says,” in reference to the fictional television character made famous by comedian Sasha Baron Cohen.
But Hamilton later said he had been to see the stewards to “make peace” following his remark, which he told Britain’s Press Association “was a bit of a joke, which wasn’t funny at the time.”
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel won the race.
