Espanyol coach Pochettino extends contract to 2014

MADRID, May 1 (Reuters) - Espanyol coach Mauricio Pochettino has extended his contract by two years until the end of the 2013/14 season, the La Liga club said on Sunday.

The former Argentina international, who took the
 helm in January 2009, had been rewarded both for his success with the first team and the work he was doing with sporting director Ramon Planes in developing the youth system, the club said.
Barcelona-based Espanyol, who host Athletic Bilbao on Monday, are still in the hunt for a place in next season's Europa League despite a poor recent run.
They are eighth, five points behind seventh-placed Sevilla and two ahead of Levante in ninth.
