Annecy relieved to still be in 2018 Winter Games race

PARIS, May 10 (Reuters) - Annecy representatives were relieved to still be in the race for the 2018 Winter Olympics on Tuesday despite a troubled start to their campaign.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) evaluation report on South Korea's Pyeongchang, Germany's Munich and France's Annecy did not give any one candidate the edge
ahead of the July 6 vote.
"We are very happy that the report states that our bid is of very high level," Annecy bid chief Charles Beigbeder told a press conference.
French Olympic Committee president Denis Masseglia added: "This report confirms that we are in the race. We still have two months to convince."
Two IOC members had made negative remarks about the bid last year before the IOC said last February that the bid had improved.
Annecy's hopes were hit last December by the departure of bid leader Edgar Grospiron after he complained of a lack of funds. The bid received a welcome boost last month when its budget was increased by three million euros after securing six new sponsorship deals.
"All three candidates could successfully host the 2018 Olympic Winter Games," the IOC said in its report released on Tuesday
