Roma crash as Totti's beefs up goal tally

Palermo came from behind with a late brace from Uruguayan Abel Hernandez to stun Roma 3-2 Saturday at Rome's Stadio Olimpico.Home captain Francesco Totti opened the scoring with a penalty and Mirko Vucinic scored a last-gasp goal, but Roma could not avoid a home defeat hours after US magnate Thomas DiBenedetto signed a deal to acquire control of the club.

The Giallorossi stayed in sixth place in the Serie A, but could be leapfrogged Sunday by Juventus in the race for an Europa League berth with five games left.

Palermo's Salvatore Sirigu on six minutes blocked an effort from John Riise and watched Jeremy Menez miss an easy flick before the gaping goal.

The French midfielder had another tight-angle effort saved on 12 minutes and was floored in the box by Armin Bacinovic for a spot kick that Totti converted in the 20th minute.

It was the 204th goal in the top flight for the captain, who is now just one goal shy of Roberto Baggio.

Hernandez fired a first shot for Palermo on 29 minutes and they were level just before halftime when Pinilla converted from the spot after being floored by Nicolas Burdisso.

Roma threatened early in the second half with several chances but the visitors from Sicily guests were deadly with two late counter attacks that Hernandez flicked home before Vucinic's last goal.

League leaders AC Milan were set to play later Saturday at home to struggling Sampdoria.

Milan hold a three-point lead over Napoli, who host Udinese on Sunday. Title holders Inter also play Saturday, away to Parma, hoping to reduce a five-point deficit on the city rivals.
