PREVIEW: AC Milan set to secure title well ahead of season end

AC Milan sounded cautious but confident about the scudetto they could secure Sunday when they welcome Bologna with four games left in the Serie A season. A win, and a slip-up from Inter Milan, who trail by eight points, will bring the Devils level with the crosstown rivals on 18 titles.

"To be certain of the scudetto it takes four more points and winning Sunday could not be enough," coach Massimiliano Allegri said. "Let's try to clinch these four points we miss."

Brazil defender Thiago Silva was even more cautious as he said that "we are very close, but we have won nothing yet. We must keep our feet on the ground."

Dutch veteran Clarence Seedorf recalled that "it has been several years (since 2004) that we have not lived this emotion and now we are almost there."

Inter, meanwhile, are aware that they will not manage to win a sixth straight title and can only delay the Devils' celebrations if the win at lowly Cesena on Saturday.

"It will be very difficult to take the scudetto away from Milan, but we must win all the remaining games," said Colombian veteran Ivan Cordoba.

"We must focus on our goals, which now are the Champions League zone and the Italian Cup (Inter are in the semi-finals against Roma), which is always a very important title."

Napoli also look to secure direct access to the continental tournament by retaining third place as they play a home tie to Genoa late Saturday.

A duel for fourth place, and a Champions League qualifying berth, pits Rome side Lazio against Juventus late Monday.

The Turin hosts, however, may have to settle for an Europa League berth as they lag seven points behind Lazio, who have more to fear from Udinese and Roma.

The Udine side are one point behind Lazio when they visit Fiorentina on Sunday. Roma sit three further points below ahead of a late game at relegated Bari.

Also on Sunday, struggling Catania welcome Cagliari and Parma host Palermo. Sampdoria and Brescia clash in the drop zone, where Lecce are desperate for points as they visit Chievo.
