Match clash is Not a Friend for Ferguson at Aintree

The Grand National takes second place to the Premier League's two-horse race on Saturday as Alex Ferguson will wait until after Manchester United's game to learn how his horse fares in the steeplechase.
The United manager part owns What A Friend, which will line up for the world famous steeplechase at Aintree at 15:15 GMT when the league leaders will be embroiled in the second half of their match at home to Fulham.

Ferguson, whose horse is one of the most fancied at odds of 12-1, would have plenty of opportunity to listen to or watch the race as he will be sitting in the stands at Old Trafford while he continues to serve a five-match touchline ban.

However, his soccer team will have his undivided attention as they seek to go 10 points clear of second-placed Arsenal with a win.

"How am I going to be in touch? The game's going on!" Ferguson laughed at a news conference on Friday. "No, no, no, I won't be in contact.

"It's got a chance, it's got a good chance. But, you need luck in the National."

Should his horse win, he could soon head to the racecourse near Liverpool to join in the celebrations, although he may want to steer clear of the city itself.

If United beat Fulham they will be a step closer to surpassing the record of 18 league titles they share with great rivals Liverpool.
