Liverpool defender Agger to miss rest of season through injury

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger will miss the rest of the season because of a knee injury. The 26-year-old Denmark international suffered the problem in last weekend's defeat at West Bromwich Albion and Liverpool said on Wednesday he would be out for around two months."Daniel has a problem with the tendon behind his knee and won't be involved again this season," manager Kenny Dalglish said.

"He'll be out for a couple of months before he can start training."

Agger has been in and out of the team this season because of injury but had played an integral role in the club's climb up the table.

Dalglish also confirmed on Wednesday that defender Glen Johnson, who aggravated a hamstring problem in the West Brom match, is also likely to be out for up to a month.

Steven Gerrard, who missed the defeat by West Brom because of a groin problem, will be assessed throughout the week, Dalglish said.

"It's disappointing for the players because they want to play in every game," Dalglish said. "We're getting towards the end of the season but if you're injured you're injured.

"We feel for them but the most important people at the football club are the ones who are fit and able to play. We have to get on with what we've got."

Liverpool lie sixth in the Premier League, five points behind Tottenham Hotspur in the race for a place in next season's Europa League.
