Ebersohn's boot earns Cheetahs victory in thriller

Flyhalf Sias Ebersohn kicked 21 points and scrumhalf Sarel Pretorius grabbed two tries as the Cheetahs downed the ACT Brumbies 47-36 in a Super rugby thriller on Friday. It was the struggling South African team's second win in 10 matches this season, and their first at
home, while the visitors slumped to their seventh defeat in nine outings.
"I'm so glad for the guys who have played the whole season," said Cheetahs captain Adriaan Strauss. "I'm proud of the way they played for the whole 80 minutes today."
The Cheetahs raced into a 25-0 lead with tries by Pretorius and props Coenie Oosthuizen -- the man of the match -- and WP Nel.
Fullback Riaan Viljoen also booted two drop goals, one a stunning 60-metre effort, as the home forwards dominated their Australian counterparts at the breakdown.
The Brumbies, who this week said World Cup-winning former Springbok coach Jake White would be taking charge of the team in 2012, collected their first try through Francis Fainifo before Pretorius replied with his second touchdown in the 27th minute.
Back came the Brumbies, though, with tries from prop Ben Alexander, flanker Mike Hooper and winger Adam Ashley-Cooper reducing the deficit to 32-26 at halftime.
Ebersohn then kicked two penalties after the restart to open up a 12-point lead.
The Brumbies were dealt a blow with 17 minutes to go when flyhalf Christian Lealiifano was yellow-carded for a spear tackle, allowing Ebersohn to slot a third penalty.
The visitors scored a fifth try through replacement back Robbie Coleman and skipper Matt Giteau's extra points made it a five-point difference between the teams.
Back row forward Julian Salvi was then caught offside at a ruck in front of the posts to gift Ebersohn a fourth penalty before the flyhalf added a fifth to put the Cheetahs out of sight.
"The first 10 minutes were tough," said Giteau. "We got ourselves back into the game but indiscipline killed us."
