Outstanding Robben gets Bayern back to winning ways

A magnificent Arjen Robben hat-trick helped Bayern Munich to a convincing 6-0 victory against SV Hamburg in a Bundesliga match played Saturday.
Also on Saturday runaway leaders Borussia Dortmund lost only their third game of the season as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Hoffenheim.
Dortmund still maintain a convincing 12-point lead over Bayer Leverkusen, who could close the gap to nine points on Sunday. Hanover are third on 47 points - two behind Leverkusen, while Bayern is fifth on 45.
Dortmund, who last lost a game last year, had some chances in the first half, but failed to find the net. Instead, it was Vedad Ibisevic who found the winner for his side in the 63rd minute.
"We were the better side, but we were punished for not scoring. I have said often that we need to take all games seriously and we can't treat them like test games," said Dortmund captain and goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller.

In the late game Werder Bremen conceded an injury-time goal against Borussia Moenchengladbach to draw 1-1 and stay in trouble in relegation trouble.

Sandro Wagner, who failed to score in his first 20 first division games and broke the duck last week again SC Freiburg, put the home side ahead in the 39th minute with a well-taken header from a Claudio Pizarro cross.

Bremen then failed to score a second, allowing Dante to equalize from a free-kick two minutes into injury time.

The result sees Bremen move to 12th on 29 points, while Moenchengladbach remain rooted to the bottom on 23 points.

Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf said he had a feeling that something had been taken away from his side. "That is a sign of our situation. We were not yet secure enough to find the second goal

"We played with too many risks late in the game and that was unnecessary," he said.

His Moenchengladbach counterpart Lucien Favre admitted that his side was outplayed for much of the game. "Werder could easily have led by two, three goals. But they did not take their chances and allowed us to come back."

In Munich, Bayern, who went into the game against Hamburg on the back of three defeats in a row, outclassed their opponents and thrice hit the woodwork before Robben put them ahead five minutes from the break.

Robben added two more after the break, before Franck Ribery, Thomas Mueller and then Ribery again completed the half dozen for the home side.

Robben, said it was difficult to explain why the cub had fallen apart in the last three games. "I just want to help the club go further and we said before the match that we could not lose more points.

"We are still a very strong unit and we have said that we will get out of our problems together. I am confident that we will make the top three to qualify for the Champions League."

Rost was outspoken after the defeat. "It is difficult to find words after such a defeat. For eight years things have been like that. They fetch coaches then it becomes better and then things go worse again."

In other matches, Eintracht Frankfurt finally scored their first goal of the year, but still lost 2-1 at Schalke 04, while VfL Wolfsburg slipped down to 16th with a 2-1 defeat at home to Nuremberg.
